El Departamento de Policía de Seattle, EE.UU., está investigando la conducta de la oficial Cynthia Whitlatch, que detuvo a un hombre negro de 70 años que usaba un palo de golf como bastón, informa la cadena Kiro-TV. Aunque el caso sucedió en julio, la Policía ha publicado el video recién este miércoles.
La víctima es William Wingate, un veterano de la Fuerza Aérea estadounidense sin ningún antecedente criminal. La oficial ha acusado al hombre de amenazarla con el palo de golf, al que calificó como un "arma", mientras ella cruzaba una calle. "No lo hice. Llevo 20 años caminando con este palo de golf", protestaba Wingate, que al final fue detenido.
La Policía ya ha pedido disculpas a Wingate y ha retirado las acusaciones de "uso ilegal de las armas". Sin embargo, la familia de la víctima piensa denunciar a los oficiales por lo que considera un caso de discriminación racial. "Soy un hombre negro caminando por la calle sin hacer nada y una policía blanca me detiene y lleva al cárcel".
Por su parte, al desatarse la polémica, la oficial investigada ha publicado un 'post' en su cuenta de Facebook. "Estoy cansada de la paranoia de los negros de que vamos a por ellos", escribió la mujer y lo calificó como un 'racismo negro'.
